FAQ'S

What is a house kit?

The Noble Home house kit is literally a kit of parts, delivered on a truck (or a few as necessary) to your building site. The structural parts are typically pre-cut to fit on your foundation and floor (specified by Noble Home). The Noble Home kit includes all elements needed to build the shell of the house, weather proof it, and install interior partitions. A kit requires more assembly work than a typical pre-fab or modular house, but the assembly is easy and can save an owner money by performing this labor. As is typical with all kits and pre-fab houses, the site work and foundation systems need to be built/installed by the owner or local contractor.

Is Noble Home a pre-fab house?

No. Pre-fab is generally considered to be sections of house assembled in factory, shipped and placed on a foundation. Noble Home is refered to as a pre-cut kit, or panalized house, meaning that most of the assembly is done on site. However, the pre-cut pieces and panels greatly simplify construction compared to other site-built construction.

How is Noble Home Affordable?

Construction costs are out of reach for many. Building a custom-designed home, while the appropriate and inspiring, can cost $200 per square foot or more.  Admittedly, a modular or manufactured home can cost less, however the design, finish quality, and indoor air quality leave much to be desired.  The Noble Home is still competitively priced with an estimated finished home starting around $120 per square foot depending on final specifications.  The Noble Home kit itself starts at about $45 per square foot.

How is Noble Home Non-Toxic?

A Noble Home is a breath of fresh air when it comes to indoor living.  Toxic off-gassing materials which are commonplace even in high end construction are eliminated.  Most material choices in the designs consist of solid, locally grown woods; compressed straw panels; aluminum doors and windows.  Noble Home can offer natural interior finishes as an alternative to painting or staining.

How is Noble Home Simple to Build?

Conventional “stick-built” construction requires highly skilled labor and leads to high costs.  The Noble Home system is comprised of a minimum of elements which are either pre-cut or require a minimum of cutting.  Therefore, it is a quick assembly with mostly average skilled labor.

How is Noble Home Eco-Friendly?

The housing industry is a large contributor to landfill use and greenhouse gas pollution.  Noble Homes are non-toxic, built with materials that are natural and/or recyclable.  Noble Home’s unique building system also reduces construction waste by utilizing standard panel sized materials with minimal cutting.  A finished Noble Home is also energy efficient with superior insulation qualities and passive solar possibilities.  All of this amounts to less material, less processing, less waste, and less pollution.

Who do these guys think they are?

Design partners Noah Grunberg and Jason Silverman have been custom designing modern affordable homes for many years. It has been more difficult to service the modest income clients due to rising energy and construction costs. With many years researching how to create modern affordable housing, the kit house was seen to have the ability to fill the rising gap in housing costs. Modern pre-fab is still expensive and often non-climate responsive, but a kit can easily be customized for specific climates and needs as well as service the customers who would like to invest their time and labor in a constructive way - adding value to their house.
